Nature Reserve

Douglas Boatyard is situated on the tidal River Douglas which, as part of the Ribble Estuary, is an internationally designated nature conservation site. Incredibly, an average of 340,000 water birds over-winter in the estuary, making it the most important wetland site in Britain.

"There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."

(Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows)
