What's in a Name?

The name of the River Douglas is derived from two Celtic words meaning "Black Stream".

The River Douglas has also been known as the River Asland (which is why the perch at its confluence with the River Ribble is known as Asland Lamp). The word Asland is derived from Old Norse and Old English words and means "Ash Tree River Course".

Boat Moorings in Lancashire

Douglas Marine Limited provides boat moorings (including marina-type pontoon moorings) and hardstanding storage ashore for all types of leisure craft at Douglas Boatyard, on the tidal River Douglas, in Lancashire, in North West England.

The boat moorings provided offer customers a choice of either pontoon berths or jetty moorings, and boats up to around 20 metres in length can be accommodated. Jetty berths can accommodate boats of up to 2.5 metres draft, but the number of pontoon berths for boats of over 1.5 metres draught is very limited.

Storage ashore on the hardstanding can be provided for boats up to around 15 metres in length and 17 tonnes in weight, although larger boats can be accommodated by special arrangement.

Please feel free to call us to discuss the mooring or storage of your boat.
